Bob Pemberton passed away peacefully at his home in Vermont in October 2023, surrounded by his family. He was 77.
Those of us who knew him in high school will not be surprised to learn that he kept making people laugh right up to the end. His daughter Sarah told us that one of his last fully-aware moments was correcting a nurse who pronounced his middle name wrong — “Augustus, dear, like the emperor, not the month.”
Bob served as our class president senior year and was the driving force behind the unauthorized cafeteria mural that briefly made the local newspaper. He went on to MIT, then to a long career as a civil engineer designing bridges across New England — including the rebuild of the Route 7 span that several of us drive over without thinking about who designed it.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret; their three children, Sarah, David, and Lisa; and seven grandchildren. The family has asked that any remembrances be directed to the Class of 1964 Memorial Scholarship.
Rest easy, Mr. President. The class won’t be the same without you.
